Overview & Highlights

If you find yourself in Hertford and have a craving that demands instant satisfaction, look no further than Neil's Meals On Wheels. This quaint takeout restaurant nestled on Maidenhead Street has won the hearts of locals with its unbeatable prices, warm atmosphere, and of course, its mouthwatering offerings.

The true star here is the burger, an invitation to savor the kind of comfort food that feels both nostalgic and wholly satisfying. Each burger is crafted with precision, featuring perfectly fried onions that add depth and flavor, paired with Neil's famous homemade chili sauce that delivers just the right kick. You’ll also want to sample the breakfast baguettes, massive enough to keep you fueled throughout the day, and impressively priced. Customers rave about two hearty breakfast baguettes for only £5—a deal that stands tall even against the most competitive eateries.

But it’s not just the food that keeps patrons coming back. It’s Neil himself, a genuinely personable chap whose passion for his craft shines through in every interaction. As one customer aptly put it, “Neil is so busy on his own,” yet he always takes the time to ensure you feel special—the kind of service that makes every visit memorable. His warmth and friendliness make Neil’s Meals On Wheels not just a place to grab a bite, but a vital part of the local community experience.

What truly sets Neil's apart are the glowing reviews from the loyal customers who have tried and tested the menu. “Proper old school burger super well made,” says Shaun Kobrak, indicating a level of quality that doesn't fade with time. Others like Kimberley Ford have shared heartwarming tales of enjoying burgers with family since childhood, a testament to the establishment’s enduring legacy.

And don’t be misled by the affordability; the quality does not compromise. In fact, several reviewers have been left questioning whether they stumbled upon a typo in the menu because it's hard to believe such delicious food comes at such reasonable prices. Alistair Hassall captures the sentiment perfectly: “The food was very tasty and the price was far too cheap.”

So whether you opt for the hearty burgers, filling breakfast baguettes, or even just a refreshing drink under £1, every purchase is more than just a transaction—it’s a delightful experience filled with friendliness and community spirit. Visit Neil's Meals On Wheels, and discover not only the best bites in Hertfordshire but also a slice of heartfelt local charm that keeps everyone returning for more.

Every purchase here is an experience. Neil is personable and genuinely makes you feel cared for. The food is fresh, generously portioned, and of superb value — which, in the current economy, is more than appreciated. This isn’t just a food stop; it’s a vital local business for Hertford and the surrounding community. Prices are impressively reasonable: a can of drink is under £1, and a freshly made burger or baguette comes in under £4. There are plenty of affordable add-ons to customise your meal just how you like it. I got my baguette with garlic sauce and chilli sauce, and it was delicious. The food — and the experience — is so good, I visited twice in the same day. The service stands out: warm, thoughtful, and refreshingly human. It never feels transactional — instead, it offers a rare sense of optimism and neighbourly connection that’s increasingly hard to find. A true gem. One worth supporting and protecting.

Thought the prices were a typo, because this is Hertfordshire and nothing can be that good for that price but it was. Proper old school burger super well made, properly fried onions available and banging homemade chilli sauce by Neil. Guys super passionate and clearly cares about his product, great stuff all round

One of the best burgers & conversation I had in UK. And that says a lot. We are going to have lunch at Neil's before going away from Hertfordshire. It was that good!

Neil was very kind and the food was so so so cheap but very tasty! Don’t make them like it anymore, cheap and tasty - 2 massive breakfast baguettes for £5! Our coffees from nearby came out to £9.50! Great value

I've been eating Neil's burgers for literally 30 years. There's a reason he's had a booming business for so long! He makes proper tasty food for prices which are simply unbeatable. He's also a very nice man. I used to work on the market as a kid and used to talk to him a lot. Fast forward three decades and he's the same lovely bloke he always was - and still sells the best value meals in town!
